HC to hear Param Bir Singh's PIL against Minister Anil Deshmukh tomorrow

HC to hear Param Bir Singh's PIL against Minister Anil Deshmukh tomorrow
, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 (22:08 IST)
Mumbai:The Bombay high court will hear on Wednesday the PIL filed by former Mumbai police chief Param Bir Singh seeking a CBI probe against Maharashtra Home Minister AnilDeshmukh, who he claimed asked suspended assistant police inspector Sachin Vaze to collect Rs 100 crore from bars and restaurants.
Mr Singh filed the criminal public interest litigation (PIL) in the HC on March 25, which will be heard tomorrow. The PIL has raised the issue of alleged corruption in police transfers and postings in the state.

Mr Singh had initially approached the Supreme Court alleging he was transferred from the post of commissioner of Mumbai Police on March 17 and shunted to the Home Guards department after he complained to state Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and other senior leaders about the "corrupt malpractices" of Mr Deshmukh.

The apex court had termed the matter as quite serious, but asked Mr Singh to approach the high court. Ever since the sensational revelation by Param Bir Singh has come to the fore MVA (Maha Vikas Aghadi) government is facing embarrassment time and again.

The Maharashtra government shunted out city police commissioner Param Bir Singh and replaced him with current Director-General of Police Hemant Nagrale, Home Minister Anil Deshmukh took this step after facing corruption charges by the former.

As per the speculations in the political arena, It is getting difficult for Shiv Sena Supremo and Chief Minister Uddhav Thackrey to stuck to retain power in the state. Home minister Anil Deshmukh is from NCP's quota, the moment he steps down the MVA government may fall anytime soon.

It is to be noted that the largest party of the state and opposition BJP has made the most of this opportunity and former CM Devendra Fadnavis has continued to take potshots at the government.

Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said Uddhav Thackeray government stood exposed after allegation levelled by former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh against Home Minister Anil Deshmukh that he was exerting pressure on Mumbai police for extortion of huge sum.

Noteably the old ally of NDA, Shiv Sena dumped the senior partner BJP to form the government with NCP and Congress in 2019 state elections. Uddhav became the first member of thackrey family to sit on chief ministerial position back then.
