Kolkata: Timely action averted a possible train accident on Tuesday morning when the driver of a local train from Howrah main line applied emergency brake after seeing a bogey of a down line train derailed and blocked the main line near Bamangachi, about 5 km from Howrah station, official sources said.
The derailment of bogey No. 4 of the Howrah-bound empty local train happened near Bamangachi after leaving Liluah station at around 7.30 am.
The derailment caused blocking of the down line as well as affected train services during busy hours, sources said.
Senior officials rushed to the spot and began to restore the derailed bogey.
A high level probe was being ordered, and further inspection of the tracks started in the locality, which had been affected due to waterlogging in the tracks due to heavy rainfall caused by Cyclone Remal.
