Lucknow: BJP state vice-president Vijay Bahadur Pathak said that the M-Y factor that is synonymous with Samajwadi Party as it stands for Muslims -Yadav, but in the 2022 elections, this M-Y factor worked for BJP as Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath swept the election and regained power with a thumping majority.

Pathak said that for the BJP, the M-Y stands for Modi-Yogi and Mahila-Yuva (Women- Youth) – the combination that proved potent for the Party.

“The results are a clear indicator that our MY prevailed over Samajwadi Party's MY in this election. Akhilesh Yadav worked with a myopic vision that revolved around caste while we had an holistic approach. Our Modi-Yogi combination is synonymous with development that was reflected in the welfare of Mahila and Yuva,” he explained.

He said that on any day, the Modi-Yogi is a winning combination for the BJP.

"They are two brands in Indian politics. The Modi brand is accepted all across the globe and the evacuation of Indian students from the war-torn Ukraine is an example. Yogi has also emerged as Brand and he has shown the world how a Mahant can effectively rule the state and can control lawlessness" he added.

“People reposed faith in the double engine of Modi-Yogi because they opted for development. Water, roads, electricity and health are some of the issues which no government ever thought about and for both Modi and Yogi this is close to their hearts,” Pathak said.

He said modern day youth are fans of both Modi and Yogi and they voted for BJP in this election. The political analysts claim that this time BJP had got over 42 percent vote, which they say is possible only because women supported them.

Nomita P Kumar of Giri Institute of Development Studies (GIDS) in Lucknow says that initial indicators are that women voted en mass for the BJP as compared to men.

“Though it is early to say statistically, the indicators are that even as men might had voted for other parties considering issues like price rise or unemployment, women voted for the ruling BJP. In other words, the women approved the style of governance of Yogi Adityanath,” Kumar said.

She said that free distribution of ration could be the main reason for the tilt of the women towards BJP. “During pandemic, when everyone was losing his job or facing a pay cut, the assurance that nobody will die of hunger might have worked wonders,” she said and added that the other issues like construction of Ram Mandir and Kashi Vishwanath Corridor might have worked for them.
