IMD forecasts light rain in Delhi; heatwaves to return in THESE parts of country from tomorrow

New Delhi: Delhiite woke up to yet another day of partly cloudy sky on Wednesday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting light rain and drizzle in parts of city.

The minimum temperature was recorded at 29.6 degrees Celsius, three notches above normal, while the relative humidity at 8:30 am was at 36 per cent.

“The maximum temperature is likely to hover around 42 degree,” the IMD said.

The MeT has said a developing Western Disturbance over Pakistan has caused the slight dip of 2 to 3 degrees, which has provided temporary relief from the sweltering heat in the national capital starting Monday.

Heatwave conditions were likely to return over northwest and central India from May 19.

On Sunday a tormenting heatwave swept through the national capital and its neighbouring areas as the mercury crossed 49 degrees in several pockets of the capital.

According to Safdarjung Observatory, Delhi's base temperature station, the maximum on Tuesday settled at 41.1 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, the air quality index (AQI) of Delhi was recorded in the poor (231) category around 11 am, data from CPCB showed. (UNI)
