IMD predicts rain over many parts of India on Friday

New Delhi: India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday predicted light to moderate rainfall over Northwest India till March 31, with the possibility of heavy rainfall for two days from Friday.
 
According to IMD, under the influence of fresh western disturbances fairly widespread to widespread light rainfall with isolated thunderstorms and lightning is likely over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand from March 28 to 31.
 
“Isolated heavy rainfall is very likely over these regions on March 29 and 30,” the IMD said.
 
Isolated light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning is likely over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and West Uttar Pradesh from March 28 to 31, Rajasthan and East Uttar Pradesh on March 29 and 30, 2024, it said.
 
“Isolated hailstorm is also likely over Jammu and Kashmir on March 29; over Himachal Pradesh on 28 & 29; over Uttarakhand during 29th-31st Punjab and Haryana & Chandigarh on March 29 and 30,” it added.
 
The weather department also predicted a fresh spell of intense rainfall and thunderstorms over Northeast India from March 30 to April 1.
 
“Isolated to scattered rainfall with isolated thunderstorms and lightning very likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on March 28 and 29 and increase thereafter with fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall with isolated thunderstorms and lightning over Arunachal Pradesh and scattered to fairly widespread over remaining parts from March 30 to April 3,” the IMD said.
 
Isolated heavy rainfall is also expected over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya from 30 March to 1 April with the possibility of isolated very heavy falls on March 31, it said.
 
No significant change in maximum temperatures is very likely over the rest of the country during the next five days. However, the maximum temperatures over Central and East India are expected to rise by 2-3 degrees Celsius during the next three days. The temperature in West Rajasthan will fall by 2-3 degrees Celsius after 24 hours, the IMD said.
 
On hot and humid weather, it said that these conditions are very likely to prevail over Konkan, Goa, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, Mahe, Saurashtra and Kutch till 31st of this month.
