Chennai: In a case of suspected honour killing, a 26-year-old man, who had married a girl of a different caste eight months ago, was hacked to death by her brothers near Sivakasi in the southern Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu on Wednesday night.

The deceased Karthik Pandian, an auto mechanic, fell in love with the girl Nandhini Kumari and they entered into a wedlock eight months ago much against the wishes of her family members, police said on Thursday.

The newly-wed couple was living separately close to the house of the girl's family.

As the wedding has infuriated the girl's two brothers, they had been threatening Karthik with dire consequences, before eliminating him last night along with their friend, when he was waiting outside a super market to pick up his wife, where she was working.

The brothers and their friend rammed their two-wheelers against Karthik and brutally attacked him lethal weapons inflicting serious cut injuries on his head and other parts of the body. He died on the spot in front his wife, who made a vain bid to save him.

Soon after the killing, police arrested brothers, P. Dhanabalamurugan and P. Balamurugan, and their friend Siva.

Senior police officials visited the spot and shifted the body to Government hospital for post mortem.

Further investigations are on, police said.
