ISIS Paravur case: NIA gets custody of 3 accused

New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency on Monday got five days custody of arrested accused Muhammed Riyaz, Mohammed Fawas Jamal and Siyad by the NIA court Ernakulam in a case lodged by a woman who was coercively raped, married and then taken to Syria.

The Agency took this case in January this year after the Home Ministry’s order dated January 24, 2018 from the Kerala Police and started investigation. The case was originally registered in 2017 of North Paravur Police Station in Ernakulam district by the Kerala Police on December 13, 2017 against nine accused and their unknown associates, based on a complaint received from the victim, who is a native of Pathanamthitta district, Kerala but presently residing in Gujarat state.The prime accused Muhammed Riyaz was arrested by NIA on February3, 2018, after he was detained at Chennai International Airport on his arrival from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The accused was then produced before the Special Court for NIA Cases, Ernakulam on February 4 this year and remanded to judicial custody.

The victim stated in the complaint that the prime accused Muhammed Riyaz, pursuant to the criminal conspiracy hatched with co-accused and their unknown associates had lured, raped her, recorded her videos, threatened her and forcefully converted her to Islam and later married her by creating forged documents. 

She has also alleged that she was taken to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia by them with the intention of further transporting her to Syria.On January 10, 2018, two of the accused --namely Mohammed Fawas Jamal (and Siyad, both residents of North Paravur, Ernakulam were arrested in this case by the Kerala Police for having assisted the prime accused in commission of the crime.(UNI)
