J&K: Injured in terrorist attack VDG member succumbs during treatment in Udhampur

Jammu: A Village Defence Group (VDG) member injured in a terrorist attack has succumbed during the treatment in a hospital in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday.
 
Police sources said that the VDG identified as Mohd Shrarief, (48) a resident of Lower Ponar Basantgarh, who was injured in the firing incident in Sang area of Udhampur succumbed to his injuries.
 
He was critically injured after a brief gunfight broke out between terrorists and security personnel.
 
“The area has been sealed and a cordon and search operation is underway in the area,” said police sources.
 
Earlier the police spokesman had said that a member of VDG sustained injuries in a terrorist attack in Udhampur.
 
Based on the information received about the presence of terrorists in the area of Basantgarh Police station, Police activated the security grid in the limits of Udhampur district.
 
“On Sunday morning, a party of Police Picket Sang carrying along with them VDG members proceeded towards Chochru Gala heights where around 7:45 AM a face-off ensued between the Police party and a group of hiding terrorists,” said the Spokesman.
 
He said that one Village Defence Guard (VDG) member of J&K Police was injured in the initial exchange of fire.
 
“The Special Operation Group (SOG) along with Army and CRPF parties had staged a cordon in the area,” said the Spokesman, adding that an operation is going on in that area.
