Malappuram: The Manjeri Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) court has convicted and sentenced a youth to a cumulative 123-year imprisonment for raping and impregnating his 12-year-old sister in 2019.
Judge A M Asharaf also imposed a total fine of Rs seven lakh on him, and the fine amount will be handed over for the welfare of the survivor, who was residing in a shelter home at Thiruvananthapuram.
The incident came to light when the victim reached the hospital due to stomach pain and, during the medical examination, revealed that she was pregnant. Later, she gave birth to a baby. The court examined the DNA report and convicted the accused for 123 years under various sections.
The incident occurred in 2019 at their house, even though the accused mother and an uncle were hostile from their earlier statement during the trial of the case as part of an attempt to rescue the youth from the case. But the court took into consideration the scientific proof and documents submitted by the prosecution.
Meanwhile, when the court announced the sentence, the youth heard it and cut his body by using a blade which was kept inside the pocket and led to minor injuries. He has been hospitalised.
