Sangli: An Inspector, attached with the Kadegaon police station here, has been booked for allegedly blackmailing and repeatedly raping a 28-year-old woman, officials said on Friday.The accused has been identifed as Vipin Hashmi.
According to police, Vipin once dropped the victim and her grandmother in his vehicle to Karad city of Satara district. During the travel, he befriended the woman and exchanged contact details with her.
On April 22, he phoned the aggrieved and called her on the pretext that his wife will coach her for public service exams. Subsequently, the unsuspecting victim reached the cop's house where he raped her.
Later, he repeated the crime by blackmailing the victim that he will end his life, if she approaches the police. The woman's ordeal went on till August 25, after which she finally lodged a rape complaint against the accused.Inspector Shelke of the Vita police station is investigating the matter while no arrest has been made yet, police added.(UNI)
