Mumbai: The city police has registered an FIR (first information report) against a married woman and her husband for allegedly trying to extort Rs 10 lakh from her former boyfriend and threatening him with a false rape case, officials said here on Monday.
According to sources in Bandra police, the woman in her late 20s and her ex-boyfriend first met last year but broke up later after her father opposed their relationship.
During their relationship, the woman had requested the man to invest in her restaurant business plan, but he did not make any investment, police said.
In his police complaint, the man alleged that on his refusal to invest the money, the woman threatened to defame him in October last year by telling his friends and family about their relationship.
“She also threatened to lodge a false case of rape against him and also to die by suicide. She also told the complainant that her brother was a senior bureaucrat and that she could easily get him booked in a false rape case. The woman, along with her husband, threatened the complainant and demanded Rs 10 lakh from him,” police said.
The police have registered the case against the woman and her husband under Indian Penal Code sections related to extortion, impersonating a public servant, defamation, abuse, threats and criminal conspiracy.
