Maharashtra: Man rapes teenager who came to his home to watch TV, gets 20 yrs in jail

Parbhani: The District and Sessions Court here sentenced a man to suffer rigorous imprisonment for 20 years, under the POCSO Act, for sexually assaulting a teenage girl and making her pregnant.

Arguing on behalf of the government, Ms Sunanda Chawre told the court that accused Datta Vishnu Gongane, who was married, sexually assaulted the teenager when she went to his home to watch TV.

Consequently, the victim became pregnant and gave birth to a baby, the court was told.
The victim girl then filed a complaint at Manawat police station.

Based on her complaint, the Manvat Police registered a case under POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act against the concerned accused and then filed a chargesheet in the local court.

After examining nine witnesses in the case, Sessions Judge Ms K M F Khan accepted the government pleader's argument that accused is the father of the baby and awarded the sentence to Gongane.

The court also slapped a fine of Rs 25,000 on accused, in case of default, additional simple imprisonment of six more months, it was stated.
