Shillong: A shocking case of sexual assault against 30 minors, both boys and girls has come to the front in a remote village in Meghalaya’s West Khasi Hills district.
The accused has been identified as Mebanrilang Syiem Shangoi who has been arrested and currently lodged at the Shillong district jail.
The disturbing incident was exposed only on May 31 after a mother of one of the minors lodged a complaint with the police that her 10-year-old-son was sexually assaulted by Shangoi.
After the arrest of the accused, 15 victims came forward and lodged their complaint against Shangoi.
The village heads in the area convened a meeting and slowly more victims started to come forward, which includedthe niece of the accused.
So far 30 minors have come forward accusing Shangoi had sexually assaulted them over a period of time.
Meanwhile, Shangoi was amember of the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC), a pressure group active in Khasi-Jaintia areas of Meghalaya.
The group has now distanceditself from the accused saying that the accused has been removed from the HYC. (UNI)
