Militant killed in encounter in J&K's Pulwama district

Srinagar: A militant was killed in a fierce encounter which ensued during Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) by security forces in Pulwama district of south Kashmir on Saturday, a police spokesman said.

The official said troops of Army, Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF launched a joint search operation in a village in Pulwama in the wee hours of Saturday following a tip off about the presence of militants. 

However, when the security forces were sealing the area, the militants hiding there opened fire with automatic weapons, he said adding security forces also retaliated ensuing in an encounter.

A militant was killed as well as some arms and ammunition were recovered, the spokesman said adding that the operation is over. The identity of the militant was being ascertained, he said.(UNI)
