Lucknow: Madhya Pradesh Governor and former Lucknow MP Lalji Tandon passed away here on Tuesday morning after a prolonged illness. He was 85.His son and UP Urban Development Minister Ashutosh Tandon informed about the demise of his father in the wee hours of Tuesday. As a mark of respect to the departed dignitary, UP Government announced a three days state mourning.
President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, UP Governor Anandiben Patel, who was also given the additional charge of MP, BJP president JP Nadda, UP BJP president Swantra Deo Singh, former UP CM Mayawati and SP president Akhilesh Yadav, his father Mulayam Singh Yadav and UP Congress president Ajay Kumar Lallu were among those leaders who expressed their condolences over the demise of the Lalji Tandon.
"In the passing away of Madhya Pradesh Governor Shri Lal Ji Tandon, we have lost a legendary leader who combined cultural sophistication of Lucknow and acumen of a national stalwart. I deeply mourn his death. My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends," President tweeted.
Mr Modi also took to twitter to express his condolences. "Shri Lalji Tandon was well-versed with constitutional matters. He enjoyed a long and close association with beloved Atal Ji. In this hour of grief, my condolences to the family and well-wishers of Shri Tandon. Om Shanti," Mr Modi tweeted. UP Assembly Speaker Hridya Narain Dikshit, MP Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan too expressed their condolences.
Ms Mayawati called Lalji Tandon as his brother. She also tied the "Rakhi" couple of times to him. Tandon was state cabinet minister during the BSP-BJP coalition government in the state.
Lalji Tandon was also the Member of Parliament in the 15th Lok Sabha. He was admitted to the Medanta hospital here on June 11 and was critical thereafter. He was tested negative for Covid-19.
The MP Governor was on the ventilator for the past two weeks and doctors were saying he was critical.Honourable Governor of Madhya Pradesh, Shri Lal Ji Tandon has passed away today at 0535 hours on 21 st July 2020, the hospital said in statement here
"Shri Lal Ji Tandon was admitted to Medanta Lucknow on 11th June 2020. During the treatment, he was diagnosed to have chronic liver disease. Because of his multiple ailments he was put on life support system. Team of medical experts made all efforts for his survival, despite of all efforts, he took his last breath at 0535 hours today, 21st July 2020," the Medical director of Medanta Dr Rakesh Kapoor said in a statement.
In June, UP Governor Anandiben Patel was given the additional charge of Madhya Pradesh.His last rites will be performed here at 1630 hours, his son Ashutosh Tandon said.
His mortal remains would be kept at his official residence near BJP office and his Chowk residence, to offer last respects, Ashutosh informed.
President, PM condole demise of MP Governor Lalji Tandon
New Delhi: President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday condoled the death of Madhya Pradesh Governor Lalji Tandon saying that in his death, the country have lost a legendary leader.
Offering condolences to the bereaved family, President Kovind said, "In the passing away of Madhya Pradesh Governor Lal Ji Tandon, we have lost a legendary leader who combined cultural sophistication of Lucknow and acumen of a national stalwart."
The Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu in his condolence message described the MP Governor as a senior leader and philanthropist with special interest in the folk traditions and history of Lucknow region. Tandon ji was a member of Uttar Pradesh Legislature for a long time. He also performed many responsibilities in the government.
"Tandon ji was a representative of the civilised dignities of polity politics," he added and prayed to God to bless the departed soul.
Expressing anguish at the passing away, Mr Modi in his condolence message, said "Lalji Tandon will be remembered for his untiring efforts to serve society. He played a key role in strengthening the BJP in Uttar Pradesh. He made a mark as an effective administrator, always giving importance of public welfare"
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath too expressed his grief over the demise of Madhya Pradesh governor Lalji Tandon and announced a three days state mourning as a mark of respect to the departed dignitary.
