Odisha: Army Major, girlfriend assaulted by police as they went to register complaint for road rage; Crime Branch probe ordered

Bhubaneswar: Odisha DGP Y B Khurania has ordered a Crime Branch investigation into the alleged police assault and arrest of the girlfriend of an Army Major Gurvansh Singh inside the Bharatpur police station on Sunday.
 
The Crime Branch inquiry was ordered after the Army intervened in the matter and took serious note of the incident.
 
As per the order of the DGP, a five-member team of Crime Branch CID led by DSP Narendra Kumar Behera will investigate into the matter and submit the report.
 
The Crime Branch team on Tuesday visited the Bharatpur police station and questioned the police personnel of the police station.The Bharatpur police station has been asked to handover all documents relating to the incident.
 
Army Major Gurvansh alleged that the woman cops abused his girlfriend and dragged her inside a cell, tied her hands, and brutally assaulted. Guruvansh further said when he protested the police action he was also thrashed by the cops.
 
The Army officer alleged that he and his girlfriend were assaulted by police personnel on duty at Bharatpur police station when they approached the police station to register a complaint of road rage.
 
As per the allegation, some unsocial elements had misbehaved with the Army Major and his girlfriend while they were traveling in a car.
 
Both the Army Major and his girlfriend then went to the Bharatpur police station to lodge a complaint when the police personnel allegedly assaulted them.
 
The Major was allegedly kept in the lockup and his girlfriend was arrested for allegedly attacking the police personnel inside the police station and later sent to judicial custody.
 
However, after the intervention of the Army ,the Major was released from the police station and the Medical examination of his girlfriend was conducted.
 
Police sources said the Army Major and his girlfriend had misbehaved with the police when they were asked to register their complaint. The police alleged that the Major was in an inebriated condition when he came to the police station to file a complaint.
 
The Bharatpur police had registered a case against the Army Major and his girlfriend accusing them of attacking constables and a woman Sub Inspector inside the police station.
 
The Army Major posted at the 22 Sikh Regiment in Kolkata had also filed a complaint against the police personnel of Bharatpur police station for assaulting them inside the police station.
 
Meanwhile, sources said the bail matter of the Army Major’s girlfriend will be taken up in the Orissa High Court on Wednesday.The High Court has directed the Investigating Officer to appear before it and submit the medical report of the Major’s girlfriend.
