Bhubaneswar: In a horrifying incident, a professor of Law in a private university here stabbed his father to death inside their apartment in the wee hours on Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as 68-year-old Sunil Choudhury, a retired NALCO official and the accused Anirudha Choudhury who has been arrested by the police, was working as professor of Law in a private university.
DCP of Bhubaneswar Commissionerate of Police Pratik Singh told newsmen that the preliminary investigation revealed that the accused Anirudha was under depression due to heavy loan.
Anirudha had a heated argument with his father last night when Sunil Choudhry refused to give money to him.
The DCP said, at about 4.30 AM the police control room received a call from Rangmatia area about the incident and rushed to the apartment where the police found Sunil Choudhury with multiple stab wounds lying in a pool of blood inside his house in the apartment.
With profuse bleeding, Sunil Choudhury was immediately rushed to the Capital Hospital where he was declared brought dead by the doctors.
Singh said accused Anirudha had borrowed heavy money and was insisting his father pay back the loan.
The gruesome murder of Sunil Choudhury occurred in front of his wife when both the couple were sleeping in their room.
Accused Anirudha was also staying with his parents in the apartment for the last few days.
The DCP said the motive behind the murder will be ascertained after further interrogation of Anirudha.
The police, he said, had seized the weapon used in the crime and a scientific team has started an investigation into the incident. The body has been sent for post-mortem.
