New Delhi: Prime Minister, Narendra Modi on Thursday dedicated three PARAM Rudra Supercomputers to the nation via video conferencing.

Speaking on the occasion, Modi said this day marks a huge achievement in the field of science and technology for India and is a reflection of the nation’s progress by prioritising research and development.

“Today’s India is carving new opportunities in the endless horizon of possibilities”, the Prime Minister remarked.

“In the era of digital revolution, computing capacity is becoming synonymous with national capability”, the Prime Minister added.

He stressed that India’s share should not be limited to bits and bytes but expand to terabytes and petabytes.

Modi further added that the occasion is proof that India is moving forward in the right direction.

He also mentioned the introduction of three new “Param Rudra” supercomputers, which will further support India’s multidimensional scientific development.

10 facts about the PARAM Rudra Supercomputers:

1. Three PARAM Rudra Supercomputers are worth around Rs 130 crore.

2. Developed under the National Supercomputing Mission (NSM) to facilitate pioneering scientific research.

3. PARAM Rudra Supercomputers features cutting-edge hardware and software technologies.

4. A majority of its components are manufactured and assembled in India.

5. These supercomputers are capable of performing complex calculations and simulations at incredibly high speeds.

6. These supercomputers will play a crucial role in weather forecasting, climate modeling, drug discovery, materials science, and artificial intelligence (AI).

7. These supercomputers have been deployed in Pune, Delhi and Kolkata.

8. The Giant Metre Radio Telescope (GMRT) in Pune will leverage the supercomputer to explore Fast Radio Bursts (FRBs) and other astronomical phenomena.

9. Inter-University Accelerator Centre (IUAC) in Delhi will enhance research in fields like material science and atomic physics.

10. S.N. Bose Centre in Kolkata will drive advanced research in areas such as physics, cosmology, and earth sciences.
