Powerful quake jolts northern India, Pakistan

New Delhi: A strong quake jolted parts of northern India and neighbouring Pakistan at 2231 hrs on Friday.
According to the National Center for Seismology, the intensity of the earthquake was measured at 6.3 on the Richter scale with its epicenter being located at 285 km ENE of Fayzabad, Afghanistan. The quake struck at a depth of 74 km, with 38 degrees Latitude and 73.58 degrees Longitude.
 
There was no immediate report of loss of life or property.According to reports from Punjab, people were seen rushing out of their homes. Similar reports came from other areas of the state. The tremors were also felt in and around the national capital and the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
 
In Pakistan, the tremors were felt in Islamabad, Lahore and other areas of Punjab, besides several areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Malakand and Hazara divisions.
 
Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh informed that there were no reports of any damage so far in Amritsar or other parts of Punjab following the earthquake. "Top officials of @PunjabPoliceInd & local administration are keeping a close watch on the situation. Praying for everyone’s safety," the Chief Minister said in a tweet.Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal too prayed for everyone's safety.(UNI)
