President Droupadi Murmu, PM Narendra Modi greet people on Mahavir Jayanti

New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday greeted the people on the occasion of Mahavir Jayanti.

In a tweet President Murmu said "I heartily congratulate all the countrymen, especially the Jain community, on Mahavir Jayanti. Lord Mahavir showed the path to humanity by teaching truth, non-violence and non-violence. All countrymen should practice non-violence, take a pledge to have compassion for animals and protect nature".

महावीर जयंती पर सभी देशवासियों, विशेषकर जैन समुदाय को मैं हार्दिक बधाई देती हूं। भगवान महावीर ने सत्य, अहिंसा और अपरिग्रह की शिक्षा देकर मानवता को राह दिखाई। सभी देशवासी, अहिंसा को आचरण में ढालें, प्राणियों के प्रति करुणा का संकल्प लें तथा प्रकृति का संरक्षण करें।

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also greeted the people and tweeted:

Mahavir Jayanti is one of the most important religious festivals for the Jain community. Also known as Mahavir Janma Kalyanak, this day celebrates the birth of Lord Mahavir, the twenty-fourth and the last Tirthankara of the present Avasarpini. (UNI)
