Dhaka: President of India Ram Nath Kovind visited the Ramna Kali Temple in Dhaka here on Friday, on the third day of the visit, where he inaugurated the renovated parts of the temple.

D. Subhas Sarkar Union Minister of Education also accompanied President Kovind.

President Kovind visited the oldest temple in the capital Dhaka and took part in prayers, said Utpal Sarkar, president of Ramna Kali Mandir Committee.

He said that President Kovind was there for 15 minutes, where he first inaugurated the renovated part of the temple funded by the Government of India. Later he took part in the worship there.

He said that genocide took place here on March 27, 1971. The Ramna temple was destroyed by the Pakistani oppressors. That part has been renovated with a grant of Rs 7 crore from the Government of India. The shrine and the main temple have also been rebuilt.

President Kovind arrived in Dhaka on Wednesday morning on a three-day state visit with his wife and daughter to attend the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Bangladesh's Independence and the closing ceremony of the Mujib Year.

The President of India paid homage to the martyrs of the Liberation War at the National Memorial in Savar by helicopter after landing at the airport on the first day. Returning from Savar, he paid homage to the memory of Bangabandhu at Dhanmondi No. 32 and visited the Memorial Museum.

On Thursday morning, Kobind took part in the Victory Day parade at the National Parade Ground in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar. In the afternoon, he took part in the Golden Jubilee of Independence and Bangabandhu's birth centenary celebrations at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad. After concluding his state tour, President Koind will leave Dhaka for Delhi on Friday afternoon. (UNI)
