President's Rule imposed in Puducherry, MHA notifies

New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs on Thursday notified that President's Rule has been imposed in Puducherry.

 
"I am satisfied that a situation has arisen in which the administration of the Union territory of Puducherry cannot be carried on in accordance with the provisions of the Government of Union Territories Act, 1963 (20 of 1963)," the notification signed by President Ram Nath Kovind read.
 
It also said that the Legislative Assembly of the said Union territory is hereby placed under suspended animation.The UT government, Chief Minister V Narayanasamy, fell after it lost the confidence vote in the territorial Assembly on Monday.
 
On Wednesday, the Union Cabinet recommended the imposition of President's Rule in the Union Territory after Lieutenant-Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan wrote to the Centre on the issue.Puducherry goes to polls in April-May along with Tamil Nadu, Kerala, West Bengal and Assam.

President’s Rule imposed in Pondy for the 7th time
After a gap of 30 years, President's Rule was imposed in the Union Territory for the seventh time.
 
Subsequent to the fall of the V Narayanasamy-led Congress government in Puducherry, owing to the resignation of five Congress legislators and disqualification of a member, Narayansamy government was reduced to a minority and lost the confidence vote on the floor of the house on February 22.
 
President’s Rule was imposed here for the first time from 18th Sept 1968 to 17th march 1969 (180 days), from 3rd January 1974 to March 6 ,1974 (62 days), from 28th March 1974 to July 2 1977 ( 3 years and 96 days), from 12th November 1978 to 16th January 1980-(one year and 65 days) from 24th June 1983 to 16th March 1985-(one year and 265 days) and from 4th March 1991 to 3rd July 1991- (121 days).(UNI)
