Prez, PM, CM and govn of other states laud valour of Army on Kargil Vijay Diwas

New Delhi:President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday paid tributes to soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice during the Kargil war in 1999.
The President tweeted, "On Kargil Vijay Diwas, a grateful nation acknowledges the gallantry of our Armed Forces on the heights of Kargil in 1999. 
"We salute the grit and valour of those who defended India, and record our everlasting debt to those who never returned. Jai Hind!" The Prime Minister on the day remembered the brave soldiers and shared the pictures of his visit to the area during the war when he was working for the BJP in Jammu and Kashmir.  
 
Mr Modi tweeted, "During the Kargil War in 1999, I had the opportunity to go to Kargil and show solidarity with our brave soldiers. "This was the time when I was working for my Party in J&K as well as Himachal Pradesh."He said the visit to Kargil and interactions with soldiers were unforgettable.(UNI)

Kargil Vijay Diwas: Rajnath Singh pays tribute at National War Memorial
 
New Delhi:Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday paid tribute to those soldiers, who laid down their lives in a bid to protect the Indian sovereignty 20 years ago in Kargil, at National War Memorial here.The minister was accompanied by his junior colleague Shripad Yasso Naik.
India is celebrating 20th anniversary of Kargil victory across the country.On July 26, 1999 Indian troops had evicted Pakistani intruders from Indian boundary.The war was fought between India and Pakistan between May and July 1999 in the Kargil district of Kashmir and along the Line of Control (LOC).
 
527 Indian soldiers had to made supreme sacrifice during the three-month long war.
Mr Singh had visited Kargil War Memorial at Dras in Jammu and Kashmir last Saturday to pay homage to the soldiers.(UNI) 

Due to bad weather, President Kovind to celebrate Kargil Vijay Diwas in Srinagar
Srinagar:President Ram Nath Kovind, who was scheduled to visit the war memorial in Drass in Ladakh region to pay tributes to soldiers who laid down their lives in the 1999 Kargil war, will celebrate Kargil Vijay Diwas in the summer capital Srinagar due to bad weather.
 
Official sources said that President Kovind will now celebrate 20 years of Kargil Vijay Diwas at Badami Bagh Cantonment Srinagar on Friday.
 
''Mr Kovind was earlier supposed to reach Drass, but due to bad weather he could not go there. The function will be held at Srinagar Badami Bagh Cantonment,'' they added.
 
Earlier in the day, Mr Kovind hailed the grit and valour of those who defended India.''On Kargil Vijay Diwas, a grateful nation acknowledges the gallantry of our Armed Forces on the heights of Kargil in 1999. We salute the grit and valour of those who defended India, and record our everlasting debt to those who never returned. Jai Hind,'' President Kovind wrote on micro-blogging site twitter.
 
The war memorial has around 500 tombstones with the name of soldiers inscribed in them. On July 26, 1999 Indian troops had evicted Pakistani intruders from Indian boundary. 527 Indian soldiers had to made supreme sacrifice during the three-month long war.(UNI)

Kargil Vijay Diwas: LG, CM places wreaths on war memorial
 
Puducherry: Lt.Governor Kiran Bedi and Chief Minister V Narayanasamy placed wreaths on the  war memorial  on  Goubert Avenue here to mark the 20th anniversary of the 'Kargil Vijay Diwas', on Friday.
  
Assembly Speaker Sivakozhunthu, Chief secretary Aswini Kumar, DGP Sundari Nanda, Police officials, Military and ex-service personnel also placed wreaths on the memorial to mark the occasion.

Kejriwal pays tribute to soldiers on Kargil Vijay Diwas
 
New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday paid tributes to soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice during the Kargil war in 1999.
Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, Mr Kejriwal said, ''Bowing down to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the sake of protecting the country. Greetings on Kargil Vijay Diwas''.(UNI)

Mamata salutes Indian Army on 'Kargil Vijay Diwas'
Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday saluted the Indian Army on the day of 'Kargil Vijay Diwas'  and paid her profound respect to those heroic martyrs, who sacrifced their lives for the country.
"I saluted the Indian Army on the day of Kargil victory. My heartfelt pronam to those heroic martyrs, who sacrificed their lives for the country," Ms Banerjee posted on her social networking page.
 
" I wish the pride of the Indian Army soar higher and higher. Joy Hind, "  she added.This July 26 marks 20 years of the Kargil war, and it is to commemorate the heroes who laid down their lives for Operation Vijay. The day is celebrated as Kargil Vijay Diwas .

Heroes.'Kargil Vijay Diwas' is celebrated with heavy enthusiasm and vigour by military 
personnel at Dras-Kargil sector and the national capital New Delhi at Amar Jawan 
Jyoti, India Gate.
 
'Kargil Vijay Diwas' is named after the successful Operation Vijay. On this date in 1999, India successfully took command of the high outposts which was lost to Pakistan.

The Kargil war was fought for more than 60 days and ended on July 26 and resulted 
in loss of life on both sides.The war ended with India regaining control of all the previously held territory, hencere-establishing the status quo ante bellum.
 
The glorious Operation Vijay saw the mobilisation of about 2,00,000 Indian troops and brought a swift and final end to the conflict by recapturing all the previously lost posts and forcing the Pakistani troops to make a run for it.The Kargil was a unique instance of two nuclear-capable powers facing each other off in a conventional warfare.(UNI)
