Punjab: BSF recovers 49kg heroin after gunfight with smugglers in Gurdaspur

Gurdaspur: A Border Security force (BSF) trooper was seriously injured in a gunfight with drug smugglers on Friday close to the border with Pakistan, leading to the recovery of 49 kg of heroin, officials said.

BSF Deputy Inspector General Prabhakar Joshi said the fighting erupted after BSF personnel spotted and warned the smugglers to halt but they opened fire, wounding Gyan Chand in the head. He was rushed to a hospital in Amritsar.

The incident took place at the border post at Chandu Wadala in the Gurdaspur sector.

Joshi said a search of the site yielded 49 kg of heroin. (UNI)
