Ahmedabad: In yet another controversial episode vis-a-vis Congress Vice President's Temple visit, Rahul Gandhi went into a popular Shree Ranchhodji temple in Dakor area of Kheda district in Gujarat but crowd raised pro-Modi slogans.

According to an eyewitness account, the crowd gathered outside the temple could be heard chanting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s name, as Gandhi exited the premises along with his supporters. The temple visit by the Congress leader came ahead of a series of rallies he was slated to address on Sunday.

According to Congress sources, Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to address rallies in Kheda, Banaskantha, Aravali and Gandhinagar. His schedule also includes the offering of prayers at Shamlaji Temple. It is not for the first time that Rahul Gandhi's visit has been marred by controversies and criticism from BJP leaders.

The BJP has targeted Rahul Gandhi over his visits to temples in the run-up to the elections in Gujarat and such visits were attributed to part of 'Soft Hindutva' politics by Congress.

Rahul Gandhi's visit to Somnath temple recently was embroiled in a controversy over an entry purportedly made in a register meant for non-Hindus. Amid intense electioneering, the first phase of polling took place in 89 seats on Saturday. The second phase of polling in remaining 93 seats will be held on December 14.The counting of votes will take place on December 18.
