New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday predicted a fresh spell of rainfall over Northwest India from April 18 to 21, along with the continuation of ongoing rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds, and hail for the next 24 hours.
According to IMD, fairly widespread to widespread light rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds up to 40 kmph is expected over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand on April 15 and from April 18 to 21.
Isolated to scattered rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds up to 40 kmph is likely over West Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Vidarbha and Madhya Pradesh on April 15 and over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan from April18 to 20, the IMD said.
“Isolated hailstorm very likely over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand on 15th April; Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh on 18th and over Uttarakhand April 18th & 19th April, 2024,” the MeT department said.
It further predicted isolated heavy rainfall over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan and Muzaffarabad on April 15th & 19th and Himachal Pradesh on April 15.
Strong surface winds (30-40 kmph) will prevail over Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh on 16th & 17th April.
The weather department also forecasts fairly widespread to widespread light rainfall with isolated thunderstorms and lightning over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya till April 21.
Isolated heavy rainfall over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya on 16th, 17th & 19th April, it said.
On hot and humid weather conditions, the IMD said, “These conditions will continue to prevail over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, Mahe, Rayalaseema, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Konkan, Goa, coastal areas of Gujarat and Coastal Karnataka from April 15 to 18.
Heat Wave conditions in isolated pockets of Odisha during 15th-19th; Gangetic West Bengal during 17th-19th; north Konkan on 15th & 16th; Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam during 16th-18th and Telangana on 17th & 18th April 2024, the IMD said.
