Rashid arrested for an attempt to foil Independence day celebration

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police today foiled an attempt by Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) to hoist black flags at Bakshi Stadium, the main venue for Independence Day (ID) celebrations in the state, by arresting its chief, MLA, Sheikh Abdul Rashid and dozen other workers.

Mr Rashid along with scores of his party workers and leaders tried to take out a march from his residence in Jawahar Nagar in civil lines to Bakshi Stadium to hoist black flags against alleged attempts being made to abrogate Article 35-A.

However, security forces deployed in the area stopped them from moving ahead.As the AIP leaders and workers didn’t back down, Mr Rashid along with dozen other party workers and leaders were arrested and lodged in Police Station Rajbagh.Before being arrested, Mr Rashid, while talking to media persons, accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of playing with the words like his predecessors.
