Another Congress leader Shashi Tharoor said: " It is very clear that as far as digital currency is concerned, the Govt was heading in that direction. To the best of my knowledge, a reasonable proposition, I don't think we'll be criticising that. But we're more concerned about lack of substance for common citizens in the Budget."

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said: "On the one hand, the Budget talks about climate action and protecting the environment. On the other, it pushes ecologically disastrous river-linking projects. Rhetoric sounds nice. But actions matter more. On that front, the Modi govt is on a destructive path."

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said: “Budget has zero for common people, who are getting crushed by unemployment & inflation. Govt is lost in big words signifying nothing - a pegasus spin budget.”

Communist Party of India leader Sitaram Yechury said: “Budget for whom? The richest 10% Indians owns 75% of the country's wealth. Bottom 60% own less than 5%. Why are those who amassed super profits during the pandemic, while joblessness, poverty & hunger have grown, not being taxed more?”

Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi said the government promised a 9.2 per cent economic growth in the Budget but the steps taken do not address the fundamental problems faced by the country. "We realised there is nothing for aam aadmi, nothing to reduce their burden or increase their income. It is an opportunity the government of India has missed," Chaturvedi told UNI.

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has described the Union Budget, presented in Parliament by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday, as useless and purposeless budget which has no direction or intent. In a release here, he said the Budget has put SC, ST, BC, Minorities, farming community, the poor, hereditary professions, and employees to unhappiness and utter disappointment. The entire Budget speech by Ms Sitharaman is full of hollowness and nothing but a jugglery of word.
