, Tuesday, 17 July 2018 (11:30 IST)
New Delhi:The Supreme Court on Tuesday asked the Parliament to see whether a new law can be made into the cow vigilantism and lynching issue and made it clear that no citizen can take law into their own hands.
The Supreme Court three-judge bench, headed by Chief Justice (CJI) Dipak Misra and also comprising Justices A M Khanwilkar and DY Chandrachud, said in its interim order that both the Central government and the state governments had to carry out the it's orders in four weeks.

In case of fear and anarchy,  the state has to act positively. Violence can't be allowed, the CJI said. The Supreme Court fixed the matter for further hearing to August 28.It passed the interim order after hearing in detail the arguments from the Centre and petitioners, Tehsheen Poonawala and others.

The apex court had, in November  last year, asked each state to appoint a senior police officer in each district as nodal officer, to take action against cow vigilantism.(UNI)
