SC bar clarifies about absence of any crisis
, Tuesday, 16 January 2018 (16:54 IST)
New Delhi: Contesting Attorney-General KK Venugopal’s statement that the crisis erupted in the top judiciary has not been resolved, the Bar Council of India chairman Manan Kumar Mishra on Tuesday said there is no crisis now."Absolutely no crisis now in the Supreme Court and normalcy will be restored soon," he said as a response to the Attorney-Generals’ statement.Earlier in the day, Mr Venugopal had stated that the crisis was not yet resolved and that he hoped the issues would be settled in two-three days. He also said they are in the process to resolving the crisis.

The rift between the Chief Justice of India and four senior-most judges in the Supreme Court came out in the open on Friday when latter conducted a press conference and made allegations against the former. The BCI had formed a seven member delegation and met 15 judges including the CJI and the four judges, as part of mediation.Later the BCI and Mr Venugopal informed that the crisis is over. On Monday, the CJI and other judges held a meeting and later started court proceedings, which gave the impression that the crisis has been solved.

However, the statements by the AG and the Supreme Court Bar Association President Vikas Singh that crisis would be resolved by the end of the week indicated that the crisis was still on.It seems Mr Mishra sought to downplay AG’s statement and said he did not know why the Attorney-General said that. He also said all judges are holding their courts and work is going on normally in the courts. "Nothing more will come out in public and very soon all issues will be solved,” he said.

He added that the seven-member BCI delegation also met Justice Ranjan Gogoi on Monday and got an assurance that there was no crisis at all.Earlier, Justice Gogoi along with Justice J Chelameswar, Madan B Lokur and Kurian Josaph had questioned the CJI in the press conference. (UNI)
