Srinagar:A major tragedy was averted after security forces detected and defused an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) on Srinagar-Baramulla highway in north Kashmir on Tuesday.
Official sources said that a Road Opening Party (ROP) of 29 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) detected an IED which was planted by militants on the roadside at Pattan near a petrol pump on the highway on Tuesday morning. "The road was closed and Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was summoned," they said, adding the IED was defused without causing any problem.
They said had it not been detected and defused by alert troops, it would have caused much damage to the life and property besides snapped the important road communication. "The area has been sanitized," they added.(UNI)
