Talks with Pakistan only on PoK: Rajnath Singh

Panchkula: Sending out a strong signal to neighbouring Pakistan, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday said that if talks happen, it would not be on Jammu and Kashmir, but on Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

“If talks are held with Pakistan, it will now be on PoK (Pakistan-occupied Kashmir),” Mr Singh said, while addressing a public meeting, here.

He also asked Islamabad to stop supporting terrorists, before a dialogue can be held.

Two days back, the Minister had also said that the ‘No First Use’ of nuclear doctrine will depend on circumstances. It was viewed as a reaction to Pakistan’s move to raise the Centre’s decision of abrogating Article 370 on Jammu and Kashmir, at various international forums.

“Our neighbour is knocking the doors of international community, saying India made a mistake,” Mr Singh said, a day after the United Nation’s Security Council held a closed-door meeting on Kashmir, following a request from Pakistan’s all-weather ally China.

However, the meeting of 15 nations, including five permanent and 10 rotating members, had ended without any resolution, was seen as a massive snub to Pakistan.

A majority of nations agreed that ending the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and dividing it into two Union Territories, was a bilateral matter between New Delhi and Islamabad. (UNI)
