Chennai: Police have registered cases against ruling DMK leader and Tamil Nadu Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Minister Anitha R. Radhakrishnan for allegedly making some derogatory renarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Police sources said cases were registered against the Minister following a complaint from BJP Thoothukudi district President R.Chitranganthan for his remarks against Mr Modi during a meeting of the INDIA Bloc in the district two days back.

Cases were registered under Sec 294 (b) (sings, recites or utters any obscene song, ballad or words, in or near any public place) of the IPC against the Minister.

The BJP has also filed a complaint with the Election Commission and the State Director General of Police, seeking action against Mr. Radhakrishnan on the matter.

In a complaint to Chief Electoral Officer Satyabrata Sahoo, BJP State Vice-president Karu Nagarajan said Mr. Radhakrishnan had used what was considered to be the “vilest language unpardonable in public discourse."

The BJP leader said it was a grave breach of rules prescribed under the Model Code of Conduct, and submitted a video of Mr. Radhakrishnan's speech to the Commission.

Condemning the Minister's remarks, BJP State President K.Annamalai in a social media post said "DMK leaders have reached a new low in their uncouth behaviour by passing vile comments & unpardonable public discourse against our Hon PM Thiru @narendramodi."

"When they have nothing to criticise, this is the level DMK leaders have stooped. DMK MP Smt Kanimozhi avl was on the stage and did not bother to stop her colleague", he said.

Mr Annamalai said "BJP4TamilNadu is taking up this matter with the Election Commission & the DGP of TN State police today, seeking the strictest & immediate action against DMK Minister Thiru Anita Radhakrishnan."
