J&K Police’s Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) wing is conducting raids at multiple locations in the union territory, including District Jail in Anantnag, to investigate a terror-related case, officials said on Saturday.Last week, twin counterinsurgency intelligence wings—CIK and the State Investigation Agency (SIA)—had raided Srinagar’s high-security Central Jail to investigate the alleged links of some inmates with militant handlers across the Line of Control.

Officials said CIK teams were conducting searches at District Jail Mattan in Anantnag, covering various blocks and barracks. Similar searches were carried out at two locations in Kulgam district and two locations in Udhampur and Jammu districts.

In Kulgam, CIK sleuths carried out searches in the Sonigam and Chawalgam areas.Officials said so far 6-8 digital devices, including cellphones and tablets, have been recovered.“This search operation is said to be part of an ongoing investigation into a terror-related case wherein, during investigations, technical signatures were found inside the District Jail premises,” officials said.

The raids have been planned and conducted on the basis of a search warrant obtained from the competent court, they added. On December 5, police had said that during searches of Srinagar’s Central Jail, several digital devices, including mobile phones, were recovered from the jail inmates.During the investigation it emerged that mobile phones and other devices had been used in the Central Jail “for communicating with active terrorists and passing on directions so received from the handlers sitting across for furtherance of terrorist activities.”(UNI)<>
