Top Hizbul commander among 5 terrorists killed in Kulgam encounters

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday said a top commander of Hizbul Mujahideen was among the five terrorists killed in two separate operations in south Kashmir's Kulgam district on Wednesday.

Security forces killed five suspected terrorists on Wednesday in two separate operations at Pambay and Gopalpora villages of Kulgam.

Police said three terrorists, including district commander of Hizb Shakir Nazir, were killed in an encounter at Pambay. Police said Shakir's killing was a "big success" for the forces.

The other two terrorists killed at Pambay were identified by police as Aslam Dar and Sumair Najar.

In a separate operation at Gopalpora Kulgam, a top commander of "The Resistance Front," Aafaq Sikander, was among the two terrorists killed in the gunfight. Police said Sikander was the district commander of TRF and was involved in a series of attacks on civilians and security men.

"As per police records, killed terrorist Aafaq Sikendar was involved in killings of Police personnel Nissar Ahmad Wagay on August 7, 2021 at Pambay Crossing and a non-local labour Shankar Kumar Choudhary at Nehama Kulgam on September 17. Besides, he was also involved in grenade attacks on security forces, including an attack on CRPF at Nehama. He also carried out an attack on SHO Manzgam, in which four police personnel got injured," a police spokesman said. (UNI)
