New Delhi: At least seven newborns were killed after a massive fire broke out at a baby care newborn hospital in the Vivek Vihar area of East Delhi on Saturday night.

“The fire department received a call at around 11:32 p.m. last night about the fire incident at the hospital and immediately dispatched nine fire tenders to the spot,” DFS Director Atul Garg told UNI.

A total of 12 newborns were rescued, out of which 7 have died, and 5 others are undergoing treatment.

An official said the fire was extinguished after nearly 3–4 hours.

As per some reports, the cause of the fire was multiple oxygen cylinder blasts. However, the fire department officials have not ascertained the cause of fire yet.

The rescue operation is still underway.
