Agartala: The continuous protest rallies of opposition CPI (M) in last three days against ruling BJP-IPFT government in Tripura has hit the central nervous system of BJP in the state, which rejuvenated the leftists.
The youth front of CPI (M) Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and Tripura Youth Federation (TYF) leaders hoped that the party will turn back in the country from Tripura soon.
The massive rally of thousands of youth with a red cap made the city standstill for three long hours yesterday and the leaders have issued warning the government to comply with the poll promises immediately, otherwise, they will create barricade and compel the government either to implement the promises or to step down.
The northeast organizing secretary of BJP Phanindra Nath Sharma had to fly down in Agartala in the evening from Guwahati as soon as CPI (M) was over. According to report, he had taken stock of party's organisational status and interacted with several party leaders, MLAs and individuals to understand how within one and half years of BJP rule could antagonize the common people.
The organisation of BJP has reduced to zero in Tripura as soon as the government formed and an uncontrolled exodus from CPI (M) in the ruling formation has made the genuine BJP workers frustrated. Similarly, corrupt and close aide of CPI (M) in the administration were able to manage the dominant position and occupy the key posts that made the situation hostile.
The action against marijuana (ganja) cultivation had broken down the rural economy but the people did not get due compensation for their livelihood. There was no job created as promised by BJP leaders before the election, the government employees and contractual workers were assured to get a salary at par with central government employees and regularization of service but it was not.
On the one hand, the government hiked of fees on healthcare services and stop providing job to the unemployed, on the other, they hiked of salaries and perks of all elected representatives including ministers and MLAs, procuring costly vehicle for Chief Minister and other ministers, a section of officials close to power misusing the public fund for personal purposes, bringing outside contractors depriving the locals have hostile commoners that added oxygen for the opposition.
The CPI (M) had held impressive rallies at Khowai followed by Belonia and Agartala ahead of the mass convention of left front scheduled on Sept 20 next to further intensify the pressure on the government to fulfil poll promises. Addressing the rally, leaders alleged that the people had voted BJP believing on the promises but in last one and half years, the government did not do anything except tall talks and vendetta politics within and outside the party.
The rallies in the last three days indicated that CPI (M) has regained its base, which was faced
erosion in last assembly elections. The rally raised slogan demand of employment for the youths, roll back the anti-people decisions like a tariff on healthcare services and restoration of democracy in the state.
"We demand the BJP government, which is running an authoritarian government, to restore the democratic ambience in the state. Democracy was marred by incidents of large-scale attacks on opposition supporters in the past 18 months. There is a crisis in the state", said DYFI state secretary Nabarun Deb. (UNI)
