Two held for rape of teenaged cancer survivor

Lucknow: Even while the much-hyped Women’s Safety Campaign of Uttar Pradesh Police is ongoing, a 15-year-old cancer survivor was allegedly raped twice, first by two youths and then by a person from whom she sought help in Sarojini Nagar area of the state capital late on Saturday night. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Lucknow Deepak Kumar stated it was a serious matter and two of the accused, Sumit and Virendra, have been arrested, the third accused Shubham was still absconding.

Police said that the incident took place when the victim had gone out to buy grocery and a neighbourhood boy Shubham convinced her to go along with him. He took her to a secluded place where he and his friend, Sumit, raped her. They later abandoned the girl and fled.The girl, however, managed to reach the main road and sought help from a passerby, Virendra, who took advantage of the girl’s haplessness and allegedly forced himself upon her in a secluded roadside stretch. It was reported that Virendra is a father of three. After the ordeal, the victim somehow reached home and complained to her parents. Subsequently, her father lodged a complaint, the police said.(UNI)
