Top LeT commander & other militant killed in Anantnag encounter

Anantnag: Two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants were on Friday killed in an encounter with security forces in a village in south Kashmir district, official sources said here.
With the first light on Friday morning, security forces resumed operation that was halted late last night in a village, where an encounter ensued between militants and forces during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) on Thursday. 
 
Official sources said a CASO was launched at Sirhama, Bijbehara in Anantnag last night following a tip off about the presence of militants. However, when the security forces were moving towards a particular house in the village, militants hiding there, opened fire and also hurled hand grenades.
 
Security forces retaliated ensuing in an encounter, they said, adding the operation was suspended due to darkness. However, additional security forces were deployed to foil any attempt by militants to escape. Security forces also used search lights in the area, they said.
 
This morning with the first light when security forces again attempted to enter the particular area, following which militants opened fire.
 
They said two LeT militants were killed in the encounter, adding incriminating materials, including arms and ammunition, were recovered from the encounter site. Meanwhile additional security forces have been deployed in the adjacent areas to maintain law and order.(UNI)
