Srinagar: Two militants were reportedly killed by security forces in an encounter which ensued during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in south Kashmir's Kulgam district on Tuesday, official sources said.
Clashes erupted in the area as people hit the streets against the CASO, they said, adding that mobile internet service has been suspended.Troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF launched a joint operation at Redwani in Kulgam district in the wee hours following a tip-off about the presence of militants.
During the search operation, the militants hiding in a house resorted to indiscriminate firing with automatic weapons, which also retaliated, ensuing in an encounter.Two militants were killed, they said, adding that the operation was still going on when the reports last came in.
