UP shocker: Rape survivor hacked to death by accused, his brother released on bail

Kaushambi: A rape survivor was hacked to death in broad daylight by her rapist and her three other men in Dherha village under Mahewaghat police station area in Uttar Pradesh’s Kaushambi district.

According to the police, the 20-year-old woman had been under pressure from the accused to drop the rape case, but she had refused.

The rape case was registered in 2022 and the accused, Pawan Nishad, was sent to jail. He was released on bail recently.

Ashok Nishad, Pawan's brother, is an accused in a separate homicide case and he was also out on bail.

Around 5.30 p.m. on Monday, the Pawan, Ashok and their aides chased the girl outside the village while she was returning from fields, and killed her with an axe.

Several police teams have been constituted to arrest the culprits, the police said.

The body has been sent for autopsy, the police added.
