Uttar Pradesh: Man gets life term & Rs 20,000 fine for killing wife for dowry in Mirzapur

Mirzapur (UP): A man was sentenced to life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 20,000 by a local court here in Mirzapur for killing his wife for dowry, prosecution sources said on Tuesday.
 
Prosecution sources said that Mahesh Kumar, a resident of Supantha village under Vindhyachal police station got married to Sarita, a resident of Bhadohi district.
 
"On July 12, 2019, the girl's father Pran Bahadur lodged an FIR accusing Mahesh Kumar of killing Sarita for dowry," they said.
 
Prosecution sources said that the police arrested Mahesh and filed a charge sheet in the court.
"On the basis of evidence available on record and the statements of the witnesses the court of Additional District Judge Santosh Gautam held Mahesh guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment on Monday," they said.
