Chennai: The spectacular Air Show held at Marina beach in Chennai to mark IAF's 92nd anniversary, has entered into the Limca Book of Records on Sunday.

It has entered the Record books for being one of the biggest Air Show and for its grandeur display that was witnessed by 15 lakh people, the highest ever footfall seen in an air show held at Marina after a gap of 21 years.

Last time when the event was held here in 2003, 13 lakh people had witnessed it.

A defence release said "the people of Chennai witnessed a mesmerising airshow by the Indian Air Force, coinciding with its 92nd anniversary, taking the show into the Limca book of records."

"Over 15 lakh people watched the colourful and scintillating performance of the nation’s air warriors with their over 72 aircraft. The entire beachfront and the roof tops of high-rise buildings right from Kovalam in the East Coast Road to the Northern suburb of Ennore in were filled with people to watch the airshow that returned to the city after about 21 years."

It may be noted that the annual event used to be held in Delhi for long. To provide opportunity for the people of other cities as well, the event was shifted out of Delhi three years ago.

The first city to host it outside Delhi was Chandigarh, followed by Prayagraj last year.

However Chennai is the biggest one in terms of the scale of the show and the number of keen audience. A total of 72 aircraft did manoeuvring, filling the sky with awe inspiring moves.

The chief guest for the occasion was Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin who was accompanied by his cabinet colleagues.

Air Chief Marshall Amar Preet Singh presided over the mega event.
