Bengaluru: Sadhguru, the spiritual leader and founder of the Isha Foundation, underwent an emergency brain surgery due to bleeding in the skull.
The condition was serious, as he had been experiencing severe headaches for four weeks before seeking medical attention.
Despite his discomfort for the last four weeks, Sadhguru continued with his scheduled activities, including conducting the Maha Shivaratri event, Isha Foundation said.
The severity of Sadhguru's condition became apparent after an urgent MRI was conducted on March 14 at Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals in Delhi, revealing a massive bleed in the brain, with evidence of both chronic and fresh bleeds, they said.
Despite severe and agonizing symptoms, he completed his scheduled meetings on March 14, and the India Today Conclave on March 16 under the effect of a high dose of painkillers.
Initially hesitant to seek immediate medical attention due to his commitment to never missing a single meeting in the last 40 years, Sadhguru eventually agreed to hospitalization, Isha Foundation said.
Sadhguru's neurological status deteriorated rapidly, with weakness in his left leg and worsening headaches with recurrent vomiting, they said.
He was admitted to the hospital on March 17, where a CT scan revealed a significant increase in brain swelling and a life-threatening shift of the brain to one side.
Despite these challenges, Sadhguru has been making steady progress in his recovery, with his brain, body, and vital parameters improving to normal levels.
Neurologist Dr. Vinit Suri of Apollo Hospital said "We were joking with him that we have done what we could but you are healing yourself. The kind of improvement we are seeing is beyond our expectation. He is now extremely well. All his brain, body and vital parameters are normal and he is making a steady progress."
In a video posted on Sadhguru official 'X' account post-surgery, he lightened the mood by joking about the procedure, remarking, "The Apollo hospital neurosurgeons cut through my skull and tried to find something. But they found nothing... totally empty. They gave up and patched it up. Here I am in Delhi, with a patched-up skull but no damage."
