Kolkata: Trinamool Congress activist Mintu Sheikh was lynched by unidentified miscreants at Ketugram under Bolpur Lok Sabha seat in West Bengal on Sunday night, police said on Monday.

He was first attacked with bomb and then shot at to ensure the death.

The bereaved wife alleged her husband went to a rally and was brutally killed while returning home. She demanded a CID probe.

The TMC leadership alleged that the CPI(M) was involved in the killing, which was, however, denied by the latter.

The CPI(M) attributed the reason of the murder to the factional feud in the TMC.

The TMC said, "Taking a page out of their 34-year reign of violence and bloodshed, CPI(M) goons brutally killed our party worker in Ketugram. "

Mintu Sheikh was on his way home after election duties when he was stopped, brutally hacked and bombed to death, the party added.

"After being wiped out of Bengal, CPI(M), now empowered by the BJP, has a singular agenda: to bring back the dark days by terrorising people," it said and urged ECISVEEP to take immediate action.
