Wife of Veerappan's accomplice held after 26 years

Chamarajanagar: Kollegal police has arrested the wife of forest brigand Veerappan's accomplice Velayan, who has been absconding for 26 years."The arrested has been identified as Selva Mary," police said, adding "She along with her second husband cultivate sugarcanes on a rented land. She was arrested on charges that she opened fire to drive away wild elephants from the sugarcane field in the village."
According to Chamarajanagar SP HD Ananda Kumar, when Selva was inquired on how she could operate the gun, she revealed about her past involvement with the Veerappan gang.
Police said that she joined the gang at the age of 14 but left it after two years. She was in hiding since 1993 and remarried following Velayan's death.(UNI)
