Woman patient approaches collector seeking mercy killing

Kakinada: A middle aged woman Patti Ramalakshmi (38) ailing with chronic abdominal disease unbearable of the pain has sought the collector Kartikeya Mishra for permission for Euthanasia as all of her efforts to get relief by medical treatment proved futile. 

The Collector who received her representation through her husband P. Kondababu during the grievance cell hearing `Mee-Kosam’ at the collector rate on Monday , was shocked and moved on seeing the request for mercy killing and immediately gave a detailed patient hearing of her pathetic story. Hailing from a poor agricultural workers family in Pithapuram town 25 kms from here, Ramalakshmi and her husband were eking livelihood by attending to agricultural operations and daily labour.

She was the mother of two children and suffering from unbearable pain due to huge abdominal pelvic solid and crystal ovarian mass. She was suffering from the ailment since 2016 and received treatment at various hospitals without relief. One super specialty hospital at Hyderabad had advised her to undergo surgery that requires 4,50lakhs. With the help of the MLA and CM, amount of Rs 1,01,790 was sanctioned from the relief fund. As she could not pool up the balance amount required for surgery, the hospital did not attend her.

Since all her efforts went in vain to raise the amount, she made up her mind to approach the collector for permission for mercy killing and donating her organs to the patients in need. Collector Mishra moved by her hapless condition and directed the district coordinator NTR Vaidya Seva to take immediate steps for providing her the required treatment at Hyderabad through NTR Vaidyaseva .The Collector also assured her family members not to get disheartened but every care would be taken to help her to recover.(UNI)
