Kullu(HP): The government claims to have done a lot for the welfare and wellbeing of the masses in the field of health facilities.

But the incident in which thirty villagers carried a woman's body on a cot for five hours will shake all to the hilt.

The villagers of the Sainj valley of Kullu district did this act after covering a distance towards main road in five hours.

Notably, in the Sainj valley of Kullu district, 30 villagers carried the body of one Sunita to Shakti village on foot for five hours on a cot. Due to lack of road facility to Shakti village, the villagers took the body of the woman through the stony and ravine of the dense forest.

The claims of the state government to connect the inaccessible villages of Himachal Pradesh with road facilities are futile. The government, including the MLA, failed to take roads from village to village.

This village is 25 km away from the main road Niharni, whereas even after independence it is not connected by road facility.

In fact, Sunita who was pregnant gave birth to a newborn on Tuesday at her maternal home in Galyada, Banjar. After this, relatives including husband Mahesh Singh took Sunita to the Civil Hospital Banjar through a private vehicle. The doctors declared the patient dead. The newborn was referred to the regional hospital Kullu and then to Ner Chowk, but the mother died.

Prior to this, the relatives and villagers took her in a vehicle to Sainj's Niharni. Due to lack of road facility, they took her to Shakti village.

Villagers of Shakti village and others said no steps had been taken by the government to link their village with the main road.

When contacted, the Executive Engineer of the Public Works Department said the matter of road facility for Shakti village was under consideration. The main road from Niharni to Shakti has been surveyed. Soon the village will be connected by road facility.

Civil Hospital Banjar's Block Medical Officer said the mother Sunita had died before reaching the hospital. (UNI)
