30-yr-old man held for sexually assaulting 87-yr-old woman in Delhi

New Delhi: A 30-year-old man was arrested for alleged sexual assault of an 87-year-old woman in Delhi's Tilak Nagar area.

According to police, the accused was identified as Ankit alias Mogli, had allegedly sexually assaulted an 87 years old woman on Monday.

As per the complaint, the survivor was residing with her daughter. On Sunday, her daughter went for a walk in a nearby park. She left the main door unlocked. When the daughter came back after one hour or so, she found the main door opened. The survivor was very disturbed and could only tell about her missing phone. When police arrived, the daughter gave a handwritten complaint, wherein she alleged that an unknown person entered her house on the pretext of checking the gas connection. The survivor gave her phone to him to call her daughter. The unknown person fled with the mobile phone.

An FIR under Section 380 IPC was registered at Tilak Nagar Police Station and investigations were carried out.

On Monday morning, the family made allegation of sexual assault on old woman by the same person. Senior officers reached her house and a medical examination of the lady was also facilitated.

Section 323/376 IPC was added in the present case and investigation taken up, said Prashan Gautam, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, West Delhi.

A massive manhunt was launched to identify and arrest the accused.

Sources for ground intelligence were activated. Technical data analysis and CCTV footage was also taken to identify the accused. Around 19 different teams of police personnel were formed under the supervision of either Inspector or Sub-Inspector besides the SIT. The team managed to zero down on the suspect Ankit, resident of Harijan Colony, Tilak Nagar, said Gautam.

During interrogation, the accused accepted the commission of the present crime. The search of the house resulted in the recovery of stolen mobile phone and clothes of the accused worn at the time of the incident. He was arrested in the case. (UNI)
