Lucknow: Around 35 per cent MLAs of the Uttar Pradesh assembly have criminal cases against them while 79 per cent are crorepatis.
The details were revealed in a press statement here today by Uttar Pradesh Election Watch and Association for Democratic Reform(ADR) after analysing financial, criminal and other details of 396 sitting MLAs out of 403 in Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly.
The analysis is based on the affidavits submitted by candidates in the 2017 assembly elections and the by-elections that followed.
The term of the present assembly expires next year and polls are dew early next year.
According to the reports, it was found that out of 396 MLAs in the assembly , 140 or 35 per cent MLAs have criminal cases and 106 or 27 per cent MLAs have serious criminal cases.
In the party wise, then 106 out of 304 MLAs of BJP, 18 out of 49 MLAs of SP and 2 MLAs out of 18 of BSP and 1 MLA of Congress have criminal cases registered against them.
The report further says that out of 396 MLAs in the UP Assembly, 313 or 79 pc are crorepatis. In which the BJP has the highest number of crorepati MLAs (235 out of 304) with 77 percent. In the second place, 42 out of 49 (86 percent) MLAs of Samajwadi Party are crorepatis, while in the third place, 15 out of 16 MLAs of BSP are crorepatis. Five out of 7 Congress MLAs are crorepatis.
The average assets of MLAs is Rs 5.85 crores.
Talking about the main parties, the average assets of 304 MLAs of BJP is Rs 5.04 crores, the average assets of 49 MLAs of Samajwadi Party is Rs 6.07 crores, the average assets of 16 MLAs of BSP is Rs 19.27 crores and the average assets of 7 MLAs of Congress is Rs 10.06 crores.
Shah Alam alias Guddu Jamali Mubarakpur assembly constituency of BSP, who has total assets of more than Rs 118 crores on the top of the crorepatis, followed by BSP's Vinayshankar Tiwari from Chilupar assembly seat with more than Rs 67 crores and third place is BJP's Rani Pakshalika Singh from the Bah assembly seat who has assets of more than Rs 58 crores.
Out of 396 MLAs of Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly, 95 MLAs have declared their educational qualification between 8th to 12th class passed, 290 MLAs have declared their educational qualification as graduate or above, 4 MLAs have declared their educational qualification as literate and 5 MLAs have declared their educational qualification as diploma holder.
The 206 MLAs are aged between 25 and 50 years and 190 MLAs between 51 and 80 years. There are 43 women MLAs in the House, which is 11 percent of the total MLAs. (UNI)
